The Leading Online Auction House Moves to M-Commerce

Today, eBay, the world’s major online marketplace enjoys the biggest popularity in its history. There are many reasons for the success of the North American company, but for the future, their bid is on mobile technologies. Every day, there are more and more people perform various actions and activities online, which includes but is not limited to buying goods and services, via this or that type of mobile devices with internet access. In 2008, users started visiting of eBay mobile app, available since that time in the Apple App Store with more than 15 million downloads. The internet auction portal is now fully operational on other mobile platforms, including Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile 6.x, and Windows Phone 7.x. Also, iPad owners can buy and sell stuff on eBay.

2010 was particularly successful for eBay, as it is clear from the following figures. In 2010, more than 30 million users downloaded the eBay application on their smartphones and Tablet PCs in more than 190 countries. This way the M-Commerce segment of eBay activities has developed significantly, since the last year. The total volume of trade via mobile apps in 2010 almost reached 2 billion US dollars, which is more than three times more than the sales volume of the previous year.

Currently, the USA, Germany, and the UK remain the leading eBay markets in the world. The two European economic giants together comprise about one-third of the mobile trade volume of eBay. eBay came to Germany in 1999 through the purchase of a German internet auction Alando. The following eBay categories are in most demand in Germany.

– Automobile parts
– Clothes and Accessories
– Automotive vehicles
– Phones and Organizers
– Sports wares

For the time being, eBay is represented at 38 national markets and has over 83 million active users. The online marketplace enables the sale of goods in more than 50 thousand categories – from Books to jetfighters, which was recently bought by a seven-year-old from Great Britain.
